1: Removing the Outer Bark (First Use or Refresh)

Use this method when your miswak is new or when you want to expose fresh fibers without shortening the stick.

  1. Soak the miswak. Place the tip of the miswak in water for 5–10 minutes to soften the outer bark.
  2. Open the cutter. Squeeze the cutter to open the blade.
  3. Position the miswak. Insert the soaked tip into the cutter opening, just enough to contact the outer bark.
  4. Strip the bark (do not cut through). Gently rotate the miswak in a circular motion while lightly squeezing the cutter. The blade will shave off the outer bark only, not cut the stick in half.
  5. Expose the bristles. Chew or press the peeled tip until the fibers separate into soft bristles. Your miswak is now ready to use.

Tip: This method preserves length and is ideal for first-time preparation.

2: Cutting Off Worn Bristles (Regular Maintenance)

Use this method when the bristles become frayed, dark, bitter, or ineffective.

  1. Open the cutter fully. Squeeze the handles to expose the blade.
  2. Insert the miswak. Slide the miswak through the cutter so 0.5–1 cm of the worn tip is positioned inside.
  3. Make a clean cut. In one smooth motion, squeeze the cutter handles to slice off the used end.
  4. Discard the old tip. Remove and throw away the worn section.
  5. Expose fresh bristles. Chew or gently press the new tip to fan out fresh fibers.

Tip: This method keeps your miswak hygienic and effective over long-term use.
